Biography

Cristina Ghinassi is performer and video artist.

In the first years of her career she collaborated with the company Teatro Due Mondi, touring in Europe and South America. After getting her diploma in performing acts, she defined her own performance method, which resulted into shows addressed to children.

In 2009 she became interested in the multimedia performing arts and co-founded In_Ocula collective, in the role of performer and co-author. In_Ocula created site-specific performances and installations with a multidisciplinary and interactive approach that focuses on the audience involvement and the use of video.
From 2012 to 2015 the collective have been conceiving and participating in CrAcK, a multidisciplinary art residencies’ project, gathering Middle Eastern and Italian artists to create collaborative media performances and installations in different countries: Italy, Denmark, Lebanon and Malta.

From 2013 to 2016 she has been living between Beirut, Malta and Istanbul, where she exhibited her artworks in galleries, cultural centres and festivals, including the 3rd Biennial of Design in Istanbul (2016).
In 2013-14 she attended the HWP – Home Work Program for artists and curators at Ashkal Alwan in Beirut and she collaborated with ALBA, the Lebanese University of Fine Arts.
Her artworks formed part of Spazju Kreattiv Program (2015-16, 2016-17) of St James Cavalier in Valletta, Malta, where she could implement Code Switch #1, a research project combining science (specifically epigenetics) and video & performance art.

She is currently based in Rome, Italy.
